This is a very high quality vise and well worth the money. However, it has a very peculiar design. When I bought it I did not realize that the head of the vise cannot be clamped in a fixed (rotational) position independently of closing the jaws. So, until the jaws are tensioned, the entire assembly can rotate. This is a real pain in the neck since it is necessary to hold the head of the vice in whatever rotational position you want it to be in while clamping the workpiece.

If that does not seem like a problem, go ahead but I must admit I might have thought a few times before buying it had I realized it.

Don't make the same mistake I did -- buy this vise today, take it with you when you move, and enjoy yourself and every job you have to do forever after. Most of us put up with a hunk of junk and "never get around to" doing it right. Blink twice and you're 64 years old. -- Forget it, order this now.

Mine was not packed well enough for shipment -- the seller makes the shipper eat the return shipment costs, so the seller can't be bothered to open each carton and ram in the extra Styrofoam blocks that would keep this 46 lb monster from bashing itself to death. Check that the little rotation and tilt locking screws are not bent (the silver things -- everything else is gray or blue).

Finally, it is not true that the (main) serrated jaws are replaceable but the two pipe jaws are not. The text all over the Internet is wrong. There is a single pipe jaw on one side and double pipe jaw on the other, and the double jaw is replaceable. If that one has "bite", that's all you'll need. But where are replacements sold? Post a link if you find a source.

What a happy surprise every time I walk into the shop and remember I finally put a vise on the workbench that wants to help me and really can.

The PanaVise 350 is a great product. It's solid and yet flexible. It will hold just about any project you want (that wouldn't need a full size vice) without moving around. My only complaint is that with the rubber feet (that you have to stick on your self) on it wobbles a little. For some projects this might be fine, but I'm using it at a soldering station. I'm soldering small wire to even smaller terminals, so it wobbling around was unacceptable. This was Easily fixed though. About 3 min and some 400 grit sand paper and the problem was solved. All in all, I'm glad that I got the vice. All I need now is a set of helping hands (to hold the wire), and I'm good to go.
